The movie I watched: The Great Gatsby

Yesterday was a day that left me with many thoughts about the path I'm on and how people perceive me. My current job, the place I work, and the way people see me have all been on my mind. I want a fresh start in my career, but I'm not sure where to begin or what to do. My current job seems somewhat monotonous, but at least I feel I can meet the job requirements to some extent. In reality, I think I could handle other jobs as well, but I would need a lot of guidance from others, and if they are not willing to help, I can't perform the job well. I feel like I'm just going to work every day to earn a paycheck without adding any value to myself. So, should I continue working? It's disheartening to hear what others say about my job. There's a saying I've heard that seems true – if I knew what others said about me when I'm not around, I probably wouldn't be able to talk to people anymore.

I will look for a new job before quitting to ensure that I can have the life I desire.

Recently, I watched a movie titled “The Great Gatsby”. And as chat GPT “It is a classic novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, first published in 1925. The story is set in the "Roaring Twenties" in the United States and explores themes of wealth, excess, love, and the American Dream. The novel follows the life of Jay Gatsby, a wealthy and enigmatic man who throws lavish parties and becomes infatuated with Daisy Buchanan, a woman he loved in his youth. "The Great Gatsby" is often regarded as one of the greatest American novels and is studied in literature courses around the world.” I had watched many videos about this movie before spending 2 hours watching this film.

After watching the film, I didn't find Gatsby's romantic pursuit endearing. I felt he was chasing after superficial things. Daisy was beautiful, but it didn't seem necessary to engage in illicit activities to become wealthy and do whatever it took to win Daisy over. Daisy is fragile, vulnerable, and lacks decisiveness. She needs someone to protect her, but someone like Gatsby doesn't provide her with that security. Gatsby is mysterious and filled with instability.

What I observed after watching the movie is that society is far from fair.

The wealthy play with the wealthy, and to them, money is everything. Newcomers to wealth like Gatsby, who rapidly acquired their wealth through illicit means, quickly lose it all. And when he dies, no one comes to pay their respects. Even Daisy, she did not attend Gatsby's funeral.

Even though we know he wants to be rich to win Daisy, he becomes obsessed with her, and it's no longer about love. But I find it difficult to sympathize or pity Gatsby more than I feel sorry for his choices. Nick did say that everything Gatsby had was him, but I believe he was still lucky to have Nick. Nick is a friend that Gatsby can be honest about his past, about his humble origins that Gatsby want to hide.
